Article Marketing on the Internet is a whole different story because of the way your articles reach humans who have an interest in them. Article Marketing will help you increase your link popularity, search engine positioning for your keywords and phrases, and it helps you reach more potential customers for your products or services.

What qualifications do I have to show you how to format your author resource box?

My company owns and operates 5 article directories that have over 10,000 articles listed online. I've seen every type of article submission there is. We typically get 100's of submissions every single day!!!

Convinced? Let's move on!

"About The Author" is the reason why you write articles in the first place. It's your own personal dedicated section that gives you the tool to promote anything you want. Failure to promote yourself properly might result in loss of potential business.

About The Author - Dos & Donts....

Ex1: "For more information visit mysite398u5.com"

This form of promoting yourself is a huge mistake! First of all, many directories automatically activate your link ONLY if it is formatted properly. What I mean by that is that you need to add "http://" in front of the link. Without using http:// your link may not actually be activated by the article directory site. As you can see above, I didn't use http://www.mysite398u5.com!

Second, this style of "about the author" is terrible. Granted, if your reader wants to keep reading about the topic you wrote, they MAY visit your website. Once they get there, then what? If you want to use a simple "one liner" like the above example, at least send your visitor to another article that relates to the one you provided. This way, your visitor won't feel lost looking around your website for more articles. On another note, if you send your visitor to this page... (Ex. http://www.mysite398u5.com/my-articles.html) you can then promote your products and services around your articles. You've now sent your visitor to read more articles while at the same time promoting more of your products and services!

Ex2: "Martin Lemieux is the owner of Smartads, he helps people promote their business online."

Whoops, where is the authors website? I've come across many articles that didn't utilize the power of marketing through their author resource box. Instead, they decided to add a link near the top of the article which MANY article directories are against. If you promote your business in the "body" of the article, your running a chance of alltogether loosing the promotion for your business. Make sure to promote your business in the appropriate section of your article (at the very bottom).

Ex3: "This article is a copyright of my company."

"Note to the editors: You may reprint this article as long as you activate one link, the article remains exactly the way I submitted it, and so on..."

Where is the promotion? Oh wait there it is, below all the copyright information, below everything else. Copyright information should be the very last thing people will ever read. Most website owners know enough to pay attention to the bottom of the article for your copyright information. Why would you use your valuable promotion spot in order to warn people that this article is yours? Promote your business first, then worry about telling webmasters about your reprint guidelines.

Ex4:

"<a href="www.yoursite211.comwww.yoursite211.comwww.yoursite211.com>."

This is THE MOST COMMON mistake authors do. Making sure that you properly format your HTML link is crucial. Not all article directories will fix this grave mistake. There's a proper format for creating a link, here it is...

<a href="http://www.yoursite211.com/">Text Line</a>

Real simple. Any variations from this example will result in a loss of your most important commodity, the link pointing to your site!!!

Ex5: "www.Yoursite2032.net." & "emailme@something203.com."

Most article directory websites will activate your website links for you if they are properly displayed. Adding a "." beside the link, can sometimes de-activate the link alltogether. This happens because the article directory system thinks that your link is part of a sentence, not an actual link to be activated! The same applies for your email account, refrain from adding a "dot" in front of, or behind your email account, simply add a space if you need to.

Here's an outline on the information that should be found in your resource box:

1) Your name
2) What you do, who your company is
3) Where people can find more information about you
4) Give away a free gift (if you want to)
5) A product or service

A well marketing article should consist of short sentences and short paragraphs, bulleted points and sub-headings, each addressing a specific point of topic in your article.

There should be lots of white space within your article body. Most people look at large blocks of text and will go away from your article very quickly. You do not want to lose your reader.

I think a good author's resource box is short and sweet. An author's resource box that is written in the style of a classified ad and explains your credentials as well as the benefits of the offer works well.

What I've seen people do to increase their results from article marketing is also to break up a very long article into different parts, so there is part 1, part 2...but leaving them wanting more by having the remainder of your article on your website is a great tactic. I haven't used it myself before, but I know others are having success with it. It leaves things hanging and that always gets click-throughs.

A little enthusiasm in your resource box surely helps, and you do need to be enthusiastic about your products and be willing to put on the sales hat online to make sales, but too much of the hyperbole and people do get turned off. So probably a balance would work.

I personally use freelancers myself to write some of my articles; I'm looking for volume but I'm also looking for quality. So before I hire a writer, I'd always check out their samples first. And if they are good, I hire them to write articles for me.

You know the scenario. You get an occasional click from Google for a certain keyword. You go to find out why you arent getting more clicks, and you find out that youre ranked in the 30's, 50's, or heaven forbid, the 300's. Okay, lets say everything checks out so far. You rank in the top 1000. The term you want wont be that hard to get, and will get you enough traffic per month to justify your efforts.

Our fifth step is to take the term you chose and optimize your page.

Now that you know what to shoot for, you need to know how the page you want will measure up- you need to calculate your keyword density. You can also do the sixth step at gorank.com - it has a free tool that will calculate it for you. Prepare your page with that in mind, re-upload, and youre almost done.

Great, youre all set. Now you should submit your site to Google, right?

Wrong. Absolutely not. If you can help it, you should never, ever submit any page of your site to Google. Let it find you. HOW it finds you can affect your page rank. I dont mean that there is a standard penalty for submitting. Theres been speculation on that for a while but I have yet to prove it matters.

What I DO know from personal experience and testing on my members sites, is that getting the Googlebot search engine spider to happen upon your site shaves up to 6 weeks off the standard time it takes for indexing. You can show up in Google in as little as 4 days.

Which site links to you can also affect your Google Page Rank. While this is not as important as it once was, it still carries significant weight my site didnt start getting spidered on a daily basis until my Page Rank increased to 5.

So even if the spider comes to your site on a Monthly basis, youre better off waiting for the spider to come back by. Thats the seventh step, let your page be re-discovered with its great new changes.

And yes, theres an even faster, better way to get Google.coms search engine spider to re-index that page, but thats another article, isnt it?

Article marketing is a numbers game - the higher your article numbers, the higher the rest of your numbers (traffice, prospects, subscribers, customers) will be.

Now don't panic. One hundred articles sounds like an unreachable goal if you are just starting out, but it is achievable. I have one student/mentee that is going for 100 articles in 100 days.

It is the same as you begin to get more and more articles on the article directories. Someone finds and uses your article, and they have found your article to be very useful. So then the reader wants to know if you have written anything else. Then your new prospect is excited because they have found more information by you.

Pretty soon you have a loyal reader, subscriber, fan and maybe even customer. All from writing and marketing good quality articles.

Viral marketing is a methods of list building

There are multiple methods of list building, and if you are just getting started, until you have gained mastery over one or two methods, it is advisable to use multiple methods of list building strategies. You’ll see every step of the process, no matter how small, in exacting detail so

Not every person who visits your website will spend money. But, some will. And, if they subscribe to your mailing list they may spend lots of money buying multiple products.

Over the long haul, each person who visits your site has an average value. By knowing this value, you can successfully manage advertising campaigns, confident you will not be overspending.

The simple way to determine the average value of a visitor is to take the total sales your site generated and divide by the total number of visitors. So, if your site produced $25,000 in sales and 10,000 people visited your site, the value of each visitor would be $25,000/10,000 or $2.50.

Knowing this figure, you may be inclined to think that using a pay-per-click campaign with a maximum of $2.40 cents per click would be a way to increase net profits. But, we may need to look deeper.

So far we've taken only the high level view at 30,000 feet. Looking down from that level we can see only the broad outline of what's going on. In fact, there may be different types of visitors and different ways of attracting those visitors.

Buyers and Subscribers

Novice affiliate marketers are mostly interested in attracting visitors who may become buyers on their visit. Their web pages are heavy on sales copy, testimonials, and bonuses. A visitor is either a buyer or not. The simple value of each visitor is based on the total commissions earned divided by the total number of visitors.

More sophisticated Internet marketers understand that the main goal for each new visitor is not to convert them into a buyer. Rather, it's to convert them into a subscriber. Once they subscribe to your newsletter or ezine, you can recommend a number of products related to your niche.

Your maximum profits come from people who are members of your mailing list. Because subscribers may buy several products, the value of each subscriber can be many times that of a visitor who either buys or does not buy a single product.

Two Types of Visitors - Two Measures of Value

Now, it's easy to see that there can be at least two types of visitors to your site. There are those who want to purchase a particular product and those who want to learn more about a subject area or niche.

And, this means that you can attract these two type of visitors with two types of ads. The "buy or not" visitor can be attracted by an ad that says, "Get Product X at a Deep Discount". The potential subscriber can be attracted by an ad that says, "All the Secrets of Niche Y Exposed Before Your Eyes."

You, thus, have two types of visitors, each with different average values. And, you can direct them to different pages on your site and determine their separate average values. This allows you to better evaluate the amount you're willing to spend on your advertising campaigns.

Summary

The value of a visitor depends on why you attract that visitor. Knowing the value of each type of visitor is powerful. It help you manage your advertising campaigns to better maximize your profits.
